Under the radar

/ Category:

It's the 2007-2008 NHL season, the Anaheim Ducks are the defending Stanley Cup champs, Crosby just finished up his sophomore year. Who is Craig Anderson? Who is Antti Niemi? Who is Jaroslav Halak? Who is Micheal Leighton ? Now it's the 2009-2010 season. Craig Anderson just led the Colorado Avalanche to a 40+ win season, Antti Niemi is guiding the Hawks through the playoffs, Jaroslav Halak is headlining the Cinderella habs and Micheal Leighton is relieving Boucher, posting back to back shutouts in the Conference finals. What is Jean-Sebastien Giguere, goaltender from the 2007-2008 cup winning Ducks doing? He's playing golf with his 15th ranked Toronto Maple leafs. Craig Anderson was drafted 71st overall , Antti Niemi wasn't even drafted, Jaroslav Halak was drafted 271st overall and Micheal Leighton was drafted 165th overall. The Brodeur's, Luongo's and Miller's of the league aren't even in the playoffs anymore. These goaltenders have been more than stellar in their respective games this year, and have done alot more towards their team then the star goaltenders of the league. How is it that so many amazing players can go unnoticed? Pavel Datsyuk was drafted 171st overall, Henrik Zetterberg was drafted 210th overall and Patrick Hornqvist was drafted dead last. All these players are part of the top 3 point scorers of their respective teams. Under the radar players who have such big impacts on their team are key to the success of a franchise, even more so than having a first round star i believe. Anyways, thanks for reading
