Backstrom vs. Gomez

/ Category:

Today, Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom signed a 10-year contract worth $67M. That gives him a salary of $6.7M per year. Now, i find it quite odd that Canadiens Center Scott Gomez, makes a salary of $8M per year. Let us compare the two: Gomez: Age: 31 2009-2010 Season: 12G + 47A, 59P +/- : +1 60 PIM Backstrom: Age:23 2009-2010: 33G +68A, 101P +/- : +37 50 PIM Now, am I the only one who realizes there is something odd here. A young prospect, who reached the 100 point mark, who went a +37 during the season, is making $1.3M less than a 31 year-old who scored but 12 goals and 59 points? I find it to be disgusting, first of all, that a hockey player should be payed $8M a year to start of with. But for a player in his 30's who scores 42 less points than a young player to be payed more money, i find ridiculous. People can argue that the difference is made up by Gomez's playoff experience. You dont get payed $8M for 12 goals and some playoff experience. Anyways, that's all i have to say, Thanks for Reading
